Two outside rides in one day.

The weather gods were smiling today so I decided to go for a bike ride OUTSIDE to celebrate. I had a short 60 minute or so ride on the calendar that was really just to assess my leg and hip function (or lack there of). I figured I could go to SUNY Old Westbury and do a few loops. SUNY Old Westbury is a 4 mile hilly loop that is perfect for riding.

I broke out the new bike and decided to try it out on pavement rather than a hamster wheel. I pushed it a bit much but overall it was a good ride. I cut it short to not tempt fate and headed home. On the way I took the picture on the right. There is no photoshop involved here so that temperature of 59 is accurate.

When I got home my 12 year old daughter Courtney was riding her bike around the neighborhood. When she saw me pull up in she said "Dad, have you done your cool down yet? Want to do it with me?"

How could I resist?

2 rides in beautiful weather...priceless! i'm getting giddy seeing all of these signs (literally and figurtively) around letting me know warmer weather and lots of sun are just around the bend.

Your relation with your daughter seems to be great!

Were you ridding on your TT bike? Planning to get one but ridding those bikes on hilly terrain make me uncertain...

Philippe,

I did the "real" workout on my Specialized Transition TT bike mostly to get used to the feel of it since it is new. TT bikes can be used effectively on hillier routes as long as the gearing is appropriate but there comes to a point where the benefits of a road bike's geometry becomes obvious. Most of my riding is on my road bikes anyway.

When I rode with my daughter, she wanted to ride through some of the snow still on the ground so I grabbed my mountain bike for that fun.

Yes, some may say I have too many bikes but I don't think one can have too many!
