Sights at the NYRR Gridiron Classic

  • On the way to the starting line, people skidding along the black ice. At least a few tasted pavement with their butts but no major injuries seen.
  • A girl wearing a #32, Buffalo Bills jersey with the words "A Killer Running Back" taped under the SIMPSON name.
  • A guy wearing a full football uniform (Packers) including shoulder pads while running.
  • A guy carrying his own football throughout the whole race. I wonder if he fumbled it at all.
  • A Rock Star with a frozen Garmin complaining about the hills but still only 22 second off pre-injury PR.
  • A guy wearing an old school leather football helmet while running.
  • More than one person with the nerve to wear a Tom Brady jersey in New York. Sigh.
  • A Rock Star's daughter Amanda taking 10th place AG (honorable mention) even though she wasn't "racing" today.
  • A guy wearing a Viking hat with horns.
  • Many people wearing soccer jerseys. Wrong kind of football, dudes.
  • At the 2 mile mark of the 4 mile race, they had speakers set up and were playing Bon Jovi's "Living on a Prayer" on a loop because we were "Half Way There!"
  • Cheerleaders.
  • A pep band. The varsity pep band in case you were wondering.
  • One thing that the NYRR does well for this race is that halfway through the race they put two additional timing mats separated by cones. If you think the Steelers are going to win, you are supposed to run to the right. Packers, left. They haven't posted the stats yet. I went on the Steelers side.

Was a great day! As soon as that sun hit, all the ice melted. Big difference between my warmup and cool down runs

Frozen Garmin? And you kept on running? I am impressed. I would never, ever run without a Garmin. :)

Congrats to you and your daughter.

Sorry, off-topic, here, but I wanted to swing by and thank you for your thoughtfulness during our recent family crisis.

Thanks, man.
